Sofia Coppola Has Dropped Out of Little Mermaid

Bye, Sofia.

Sofia Coppola looked at the stuff and thought it wasn’t so neat: The director dropped out of the live-action version of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid over creative differences, reports Deadline. According to Variety, Coppola was keen on Maya Thurman Hawke, the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, for the part of Ariel, but studio executives were nervous. Producers Universal, Tim Bevan, and Eric Fellner are reportedly forging ahead with a rewrite of the script by Caroline Thompson. Those druggy mermaids listening to Bow Wow Wow will just be part of another world.
