Sandra Gould

Actress Sandra Gould, best known as nosy next-door neighbor Gladys Kravitz on the popular TV series “Bewitched” and whose voice was heard on “The Flintstones,” died Tuesday at Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank of a stroke. She was 73.

Gould began her career at age 9 as a child actress on radio and stage. As an adult, she worked on hundreds of radio programs, most prominently “Duffy’s Tavern,” on which she played Miss Duffy.

She soon moved to film, where she was seen in numerous Doris Day films, including “Romance on the High Seas” and “It’s A Great Feeling” as well as other features including “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken” and “The Barefoot Executive.”

On TV, she had roles on “I Love Lucy,” “The Twilight Zone,” and “My Three Sons.” She was the voice of Betty Rubble on “The Flintstones” for six years.

Baby boomers and Nick at Nite viewers remember Gould as the neighbor peering in the window on Samantha and Darren. She played Gladys Kravitz on the hit show for six years.

Gould continued to act in recent years, including guest spots on “Friends” and “Veronica’s Closet.”

She also published two books, painted, and volunteered with charities including Meals on Wheels and Actors and Others for Animals.

Kasey Rogers, who played Louise Tate on “Bewitched,” said the kindhearted thesp took her “Bewitched” role with her wherever she went. “She could walk into any room and as soon as she said, ‘Abner!,’ everyone would turn around and laugh,” she told Daily Variety.

She is survived by a son, Michael.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to any charity of the donor’s choice.
