The Modern Tinkerbell Bun Is About To Be Everywhere & JLo & Yara Shahidi Are Fans

It's time for the ‘off-duty’ bun to make room because there's a new hype-queen hairstyle in town that we're already obsessed with. The Tinkerbell bun has been given a modern makeover and we keep spotting it everywhere.

Unlike the low-slung ‘90s supermodel bun and spiky bun we’ve seen on the likes of Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Megan Thee Stallion, the Tinkerbell bun falls firmly in top knot territory, sitting high on the crown of the head.

Also unlike the '90s buns, which have become sleeker and slicker in the last couple of years, it leans ever-so-slightly into messy bun territory, but it keeps the polish of a neater more glamorous updo. It's wearable, it's voluminous and it's adorable, but it also has a fresh, cool-girl appeal thanks to those looser, teased pieces that help it to feel relaxed.

And, to keep it in the spirit of Tinkerbell herself, we've seen the style worn with delicate, piecey fringes that add texture and add the perfect cosy feel for autumn.

Lily Collins wore the style for the Go Campaign Gala on 9th October, pairing it with a semi-sheer dress for the occasion. Her hairstylist, Gregory Russell, kept the look feeling expensive with a super healthy, glossy finish and a sleek twist-knot bun, but he left the ends out at the back and styled her French-girl fringe with mussy movement at the edges to help it feel a little more worn-in and modern.

Super stylist, Pekela Riley, was on the scene early sharing the cutest rendition of the Tinkerbell bun to her Instagram in 2019. Worn a little loose, with the hair gently gathered into a top knot and a pretty curly fringe, it's a beautiful way to wear the style for curly girls – and the wispy baby hairs around the nape are extra sweet.

Get ready to see a lot more of Yara Shahidi wearing the pretty style. The actress is set to star as Tinkerbell in the Disney+ live action re-telling, Peter Pan & Wendy, landing next year.

And JLo's partial to a Tinkerbell bun, too, though her latest renditions have seen her skip a fringe for gently scooped back strands instead.

So, we're sold. It's easy to do, sweet as hell and getting added to our repertoire ASAP.
