How to take a screenshot on your Xbox One, and view all your screenshots later

Redeem now

Taking a screenshot on an Xbox One is just as easy — if not easier — than taking a screenshot of your laptop or phone screen.

But it's important to note that you can only take screenshots while in a game — you can't take screenshots of the homescreen or any additional menus.

And to save or share your screenshots, you'll need to have an Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate account.

Here's how to do it.

How to take a screenshot on your Xbox One

To take a screenshot, press the Xbox button (it's the Xbox logo in the center of your controller) at any time during a game. Once the guide is open, press the Y button.

You can also manually scroll to the "Capture screenshot" option. Marissa Perino/Business Insider

This will automatically save a screenshot, which you can find by accessing your "Recent captures" photos in the "Capture & share" menu pictured above.

How to view your Xbox One screenshots and access your screenshot settings

You can do this whether you're in a game or on your homescreen.

1. Press the Xbox button.

2. Scroll using the RT trigger until you get to the "Capture & share" menu — it may also be called "Broadcast & capture." Its icon usually looks like a satellite dish.

3. Scroll down to the "Recent Captures" tab and select it.

  • You can also edit your screenshot settings from this menu by selecting "Capture settings" or "Advanced settings." Here, make sure your preferences are set to "Allow game captures" to ensure the function is activated. You can also edit the resolution of your screenshots.

5. The "Recent captures" menu will show you a collection of your newsest screenshots. You can select any screenshot to view it in a larger size, or select "Show All" at the bottom to see all your screenshots, not just the recent ones. From there, you can share, edit, or delete them.

By default, you'll only be shown a short collection of your most recent screenshots at first. Marissa Perino/Business Insider
