Glitter Mascara Is Trending On TikTok And It's The Prettiest Makeup Switch-up

Ever since Euphoria's Alexa Demie loaded her lashes up with sparkles to go out-out earlier this year, glitter mascara has been trending on TikTok. And, now we're approaching Christmas party season – and after that, New Years – the look is seriously picking up momentum once again.

Alexa's pal, YouTuber Devon Carlson, shared the video on her IG stories of the Euphoria actress fluttering her XXL glitter-encrusted lashes, which she paired with a blended out black smokey eye. We can see the appeal. It's an easy switch to sub or add in a sparkly mascara in place of your regular formula. It doesn't add any steps to your routine (only one extra if you apply on top of your fave mascara), or take long to apply – but it can seriously next-level your look. And while, glitter mascara makes a definite elite makeup statement, it's still subtle enough to feel cool and wearable for any glam events that come up in the next couple of months.

Unsurprisingly, the beautysphere on TikTok have been quick to recreate the look with their own twists on the style.

One creator, @madeleine_white, told users “so I saw that video and I just about died. That is the eye makeup of my dreams. Specifically, her lashes. So I went on Amazon and I bought glitter mascara," she explained.

She continued: “I'm going to recreate her entire eye look,” she sketched out the black eyeshadow on each eye, then after examining Alexa's lashes determined: "I'm pretty sure she's wearing falsies, which I'm not gonna do. I'll have to go in with 10 coats of black mascara first to get the length." Finally she added the glitter mascara top coat, reporting “I'm definitely going to need a few coats. You basically have to go in and paint each individual lash," but, she concluded: "It worked way better than I thought."

Aside from Alexa's endorsement, glitter mascara is generally a classic for updating eyes with a little extra sparkle, especially in the run up to Christmas. The icicle effect is delicately shimmery and makes eyes pop. Plus it adds a fun twist to your look.

Another creator @beauty.with.cait told users: “Glitter mascara topcoats exist!” Adding, “it is so easy, it looks so cool. Unless a light reflects on you, or you're at a club or something, it's kind of subtle.” She hyped up its multi-hyphenate abilities, too, mentioning, it “also work really well as an eyeshadow,” when patted onto lids and concluded that the trend is “so fun and festive with so little effort.” Which sounds like our kind of look.

And TikTok creator, @arevceline, also took to the app to rate the trend. She shared a video asking “Can you tell that I'm wearing glitter mascara? This is so cool.” She loaded up her lashes with several extra coats before spinning the camera and adding “Let's see what it looks like with flash and back camera.”

Creator @therobelifeblog also gave the trend her seal of approval in a video, stating: “Oh my God, you need these glitter mascaras, they're absolutely beautiful for New Years Eve, just to make your eyes pop and sparkle[…] I'm so obsessed with these. Look how pretty!”

As for which formulas to buy, H&M's Glitter Mascara/Eyeliner, £4.99, has picked up a stream of positive reviews for its stand out sparkle pay-off and multipurpose functionality. Or, if you want to take the hard work out of it, like Alexa, you could always choose a set of shimmer falsies to bring the drama (try Ardell's Shimmer Runway Strip Lashes, £3.95)
